The 2019 Pellston Hornets varsity baseball season came to a close on Friday morning after a 6-2 loss to Inland Lakes. The Bulldogs would go on to defeat Harbor Light in the final game to win the District title.
Inland Lakes won the coin flip for home team and so the Hornets led off at the plate. Freshman Ethan Landon hit a line drive single to right field with one out. Landon stole second. A Glenn Bonter walk followed by a Rave O’Neil single to left would load up the bases. Sage LaLonde drew a walk, scoring Landon but a couple of untimely strikeouts would end the scoring chances for the Hornets in the first.
Glenn Bonter took the mound for the host team who gave a solid pitching performance. Bonter pitched into several ground balls in the first inning but the Hornets would commit two infield errors, resulting in 2 runs for the Bulldogs in the first. Pellston would go scoreless for the next 5 innings, stranding 6 runners.
Inland Lakes would score 2 in the 2nd and 2 more in the 4th. The Hornets would answer with 1 run in the 7th on a leadoff single by Jared Krussell. He was moved into scoring position on a steal, advanced on an Ethan Landon fly ball to right-center before a Rave O’Neil single would score him.
Like some other times during the season, the Hornets struggled defensively, committing 8 errors in the game.
