After a last minute addition to the schedule, the Hornets Wrestling team traveled to Boyne City on Saturday, February 20th for a meet with the Benzie Central Huskies, the Boyne City Ramblers and the Rogers City Hurons.
Pellston vs Benzie Central
The Huskies would get on the board first at 145 lbs as Austin Smith would pin Hunter Sonnenberg with a fall time of 1:09 to put the Huskies up 6-0.
Mike Stepanovich would then pick up another six points for the Huskies at 152 lbs with an injury default after Zander Overholt was unable to continue after an ankle injury in the first period.
Tyrone Browlett would make it 18-0 in favor of the Huskies with a fall over Corbin Overholt at 160 lbs.
Mike Pfeiffer would then add 6 more points to the Huskies lead with a forfeit at 171 lbs.
The 189 lb match Jacob Stevenson pinned Aston VanHuysen with a fall time of 5:28 building the Huskie lead to 30-0.
The Hornets would get on the board at 215lbs as Will Kline picked up a forfeit to make it 30-6.
The Huskies continued to roll at 285 lbs as Grant Hackbarth pinned Aiden Klungle with a fall time of 1:14 bringing the score to 36-6.
After a double forfeit at 103 lbs, Waas Craven would win a 12-1 major decision victory over Mason Francis at 112 lbs to make it 36-10.
At 119 lbs Matt Chiles would add 6 more team points for the Hornets pinning Cambrie Lawrence with a fall time of 2:06 to make it 36-16.
At 125 lbs Owen Cruder won via forfeit to bring the Huskies’ lead over the Hornets to 42-16.
Landen Pangborn defeated Kenny Crawford in a 8-4 decision to build the Huskies’ lead to 45-16.
Jacob Gillison would then win via forfeit at 135lbs adding 6 more points in favor of the Huskies.
In the final match, at 140 lbs Sam Ross defeated Nate Chiles by technical fall with a score of 18-3. The final match score was the Benzie Central Hornets 56 and the Pellston Hornets 16.
Pellston vs Boyne City
The Hornets and Ramblers would trade forfeits in the first three weight classes. Max Matthews and Jacob Bush would pick up forfeits for the Ramblers at 152 lbs and 171 lbs while Corbin Overholt would win via forfeit at 160 lbs to start the meet off 6-12 in favor of the Ramblers.
At 189 lbs Bobby Hoth pinned Will Kline with a fall time of :45.
At 215 lbs Jacob Gregware pinned Aston VanHuysen bringing the match score to 6-24.
Gavin Hernandez then pinned Aiden Klungle with a fall time of 1:02 to make it 6-30 in favor of the Ramblers.
A double forfeit at 103 lbs was followed by Tim Bowman with a pin over Waas Craven with fall time of 1:16 at 112 lbs.
Matt Chiles then won via forfeit at 119 lbs to bring the score to 12-36.
After a double forfeit at 125lbs Jordan McBee pinned Kenny Crawford with a fall time of 2:28 in the 130 lb weight class.
A double forfeit at 135 lbs was followed by Nate Chiles pinning Anders Fultz with a fall time of 1:32 at 140 lbs. Chiles’ victory brought the team score to 18-42.
The final match of the meet came at 145 lbs as Lydia Kraus pinned Hunter Sonnenberg with a fall time of 2:58. The final match score was 18-48 in favor of the Ramblers.
Pellston vs Rogers City
At 160 lbs Isaac Hein won via forfeit to put the Hurons on top 0-6.
Jake Pomranke would then pin Corbin Overholt with a fall time of 3:35 in the 171 lbs weight class.
In the 189 lb match, Austin Bieles defeated Will Kline with a 16-5 major decision victory building the Hurons lead to 16.
At 215 lbs, Anthony Paul pinned Aston VanHuysen with a fall time of :30.
Clayton Henry then pinned Aiden Klungle with a fall time of 3:17 to put the Hurons’ lead to 28.
Austin Fenstermaker would win via forfeit at 103lbs.
Waas Craven would win by forfeit at 112 lbs as the Hornets got on the board 6-34.
The Hornets and Hurons would continue to trade forfeits as Matt Chiles won via forfeit at 119 lbs and Hayden Hentkowski won at 125 lbs. Both teams would forfeit at 130lbs to bring the team score to 12-40
In the 135 lb match, Kenny Crawford pinned Caden Fenstermaker with a fall time of 1:13.
This would be the final match of the meet as the Hornets would pick up forfeit victories at 140 lbs for Nate Chiles and 145 lbs for Hunter Sonnenberg. While the Hurons would win the final weight class at 152 lbs with Isaac Paul winning by forfeit. The final team score was 30-46 in favor of the Hurons.
The Hornets return to the mat on Wednesday as the travel to Newberry for a SAC matchup with Newberry and Rudyard, followed by the Alpena Quad on Saturday, February 27th. Good luck Hornets!
