The MHSAA Representative Council is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday, July 29th. It is anticipated that they will announce the statewide plan for fall sports in the days following that meeting. It is the goal of MHSAA to begin fall sports in the fall as scheduled, HOWEVER they have made it clear that COVID could impact that plan, see the July 17th MHSAA Summer Update for full release: https://www.mhsaa.com/Portals/0/Documents/AD%20Forms/MHSAA%20Summer%20Guidance%20Update%204.pdf
If we are able to resume sports in the fall as scheduled, here are some important dates (times TBA):
Monday, August 10, 2020 – JV and Varsity Football begins official practice
Wednesday, August 12, 2020 – JV and Varsity Volleyball begins official practice, Varsity Cross Country begins practice
Monday, August 24, 2020 – Middle school* volleyball and middle school* football begin practice
Tuesday, September 8, 2020 – First day of school for Pellston Public Schools
*Reminder that 6th graders are allowed to play 7th and 8th grade sports. Pellston’s policy is a sport-by-sport year-to-year basis, depending on numbers in the program. Pellston is encouraging 6th graders to come out for both volleyball and football for the 2020 season.
Additionally, reminder that if a student-athlete has a physical already on file with the Athletic Director valid for the 2019-2020 school year, that student athlete does not need another physical (although they are certainly welcome to). Students with valid physicals already on file will need to complete the MHSAA Health Questionnaire form prior to first day of practice. A copy can be found HERE.
Once we get the go-ahead from MHSAA, more detailed communication regarding start times/locations for practices will be issued. Thank you for your patience.
